Apple, being the creatures of habit that they are, normally unveil new products on Tuesdays, which might make this rumour seem a little unlikely. However, with Steve Jobs now taking sick leave from Apple until further notice, this would be a nice way to honour the man who has made such a huge contribution both to Apple and the computing world in general.
Apple have reportedly already began shipping sealed packages to many of their partners, under strict warnings not to open or examine the contents. The annual Apple shareholder meeting also normally coincide with Jobs’ birthday, and this year is sure to be a jovial affair after the success of the iPad and pretty much every other product Apple touched in 2010.
This years shareholder meeting takes place on February 23, which is the day before the expected release of the new MacBook Pros. Whether Steve receives the birthday wishes of Apple shareholders through the singing of the Happy Birthday anthem remains to be seen, although from all reports, it wouldn’t be the first time this has occurred.
While this rumour is far from confirmed, if you are planning on getting a MacBook Pro, you would be advise to wait until after this date. MacRumors states, “we do consider the MacBook Pro to be near the end of its product cycle based on the most recent major upgrade date of April 2010 and advise users who do not require new machines immediately to hold off on purchasing MacBook Pros.”
There are no details about what exactly will be upgraded, although a faster CPU, faster GPU, better battery, and thinner and lighter body are all likely. There are rumours that the computers will be made from the LiquidMetal alloy, and also that it will feature LightPeak, Intel’s new high-speed data transfer technology that is over two times faster than USB 3.0 with a current maximum of 10Gb/s.
